Final Project
My final project was to carry out an audit on a site and offer alternatives possibilities. I chose the website Rent.ie as my subject, a website that provides accommodation in Ireland. I updated the layout and colour choices to give the site a cleaner, less cluttered look. To add to the functionality of the site I removed extraneous elements and pages that obstructed the user’s ability to find the accommodation listings.
Modules
Competitor Analysis
I used Gartner quadrants to evaluate the competitive positioning of the product and researched direct and indirect competitors to build comparative tables.
Usability Testing
Using Zoom I performed a series of remote usability tests to assess assumptions about the product and how well people understand how to use It. Dovetail was used to transcribe and analyse the data from these tests.
Personas
I constructed a survey to gather information on motivations, expectations and the demographics of users. I used this data to create user persons giving them names, personalities and adding photos making it easy to empathise with the persona.
Scenarios
I created narratives and simple stories around a persona using the product in a specific situation. This helped to make abstract concepts of how a user would interact with the site more accessible and showed where I could create benefits for the customers and users.
Prototyping
At the early stage of the project I created low fidelity paper prototypes to gain initial insights. As the project progressed I built wireframe prototypes using Figma and InVison for the user tests.
Design Principles
I used Gestalt design principles in my final project to redesign Rent.ie with a clear visual hierarchy and minimal clutter on screen.
